Measure first · Compare second

Will this desk fit your room and monitor arm?

Print this worksheet using your browser's print menu, or fill a separate copy of the measurements. These are planning checks, not a physical test or a guarantee of fit. All illustrated dimensions are synthetic examples; measure your actual room, desktop, frame and accessories.

1. Measure the room, not just the desktop

Usable floor depthRear gap + top + chair movement / passage

Front clearanceYour chair's full movement and local access needs

2. A width pass can still be a depth failure

Synthetic desk footprint comparisonExample A has a 160 cm wide and 135 cm deep space. A 140 by 70 cm desk with an assumed 10 cm rear gap and 55 cm front allowance exactly consumes its depth. Example B keeps the same width but reduces usable depth to 115 cm, giving a 20 cm deficit. All clearance values are assumptions, not universal recommendations. A · Depth total = 135 cm (no spare room)140 × 70 cm desk10 cm assumed rear gap55 cm assumed front spaceRoom width: 160 cm B · Usable depth = 115 cm (20 cm short)Same 140 × 70 cm deskFront space is insufficient20 cm outside the planSame width: 160 cm

Example arithmetic: 160 − 140 = 20 cm total side room (10 cm each only if centered). Depth required = 10 + 70 + 55 = 135 cm. The 55 cm front allowance is a made-up planning input, not an accessibility standard or recommended minimum. Substitute your measured chair movement and applicable access requirements.

3. Check the arm and underside together

Compatibility checkRecord the exact specificationPass / question
Desktop construction / thicknessSolid, laminate, hollow or metal; thickness at clamp
Clamp opening / contact plateSupported thickness and required flat contact area
Underside obstructionApron, frame rail, cable tray or drawer in the clamp path
Monitor compatibilityVESA spacing; display weight without its base; curvature
Arm envelopeRear sweep, reach, minimum setback and cable routing
Moving desk travelLowest / highest loaded position, shelf clearance, cable slack

Example: a 25 mm top fits an arm's stated 10–50 mm thickness range, but a rail under the rear edge may still block the clamp. Passing the thickness check is not a compatibility verdict.
